David Gerstner
Mr. Gerstner brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Virginia Run Elementary School. He began his career in Fairfax County Public Schools as a physical and health education teacher at Franklin Middle School in 2004 and went on to serve as the school’s assessment coach beginning in 2009. Following a successful experience as an acting assistant principal at Lees Corner in 2012, Mr. Gerstner was appointed as the assistant principal at Daniels Run Elementary School. He then served as the assistant principal at Floris Elementary School from 2014-2018. In 2019, Mr. Gerstner was named principal at Fairfax Villa Elementary School where he demonstrated a strong commitment to ensuring high levels of learning for all students.
Mr. Gerstner is a caring leader who brings years of student-centered instructional leadership experience with him. His leadership style and strong ability to build relationships with students, staff, and families promote a positive and engaging school climate. Mr. Gerstner has proven to be an effective communicator, and he is eager to deepen his relationships with all stakeholders as he serves the Virginia Run Community. Mr. Gerstner is an active member of the Virginia Run and Westfield communities. His son and daughter are proud Virginia Run Vikings! He can often be seen attending sporting events at Westfield High School with his family. In his spare time, he enjoys playing ice hockey and coaching lacrosse, basketball, and flag football.
Mr. Gerstner earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from West Virginia University.
Nicholas Rousos
Mr. Rousos has been a member of the FCPS family since kindergarten. Growing up in Mt. Vernon and moving to Fairfax Station in 6th grade, he graduated from Lake Braddock where his mother taught science and his twins graduated in 2019. George Mason University conferred his bachelor’s in psychology followed by Master’s degrees in both Curriculum & Instruction as well as Administration & Supervision. A lifelong learner, he continued on to obtain a Virginia Superintendent’s license endorsed by Virginia Tech. Starting in FCPS as a classroom teacher 30 years ago, Mr. Rousos brings his 25 years of administrative experience to Virginia Run as Assistant Principal. He is student-centered and values open communication with students, staff, and parents. When not at Virginia Run, Mr. Rousos spends time with his wife, family, and friends, going fishing, traveling, riding motorcycles, tinkering in the garage, and spending as much time outside as possible.
Lauren Arreaza
A Virginia native, Ms. Arreaza grew up in Arlington and graduated from Washington-Lee High School. Her educational journey continued at George Mason University, where she obtained her bachelor's and master's degrees. Dedicated to her community, Ms. Arreaza has served Fairfax County schools for over ten years. Throughout her tenure, she has inspired students of various grade levels. Outside of school, Ms. Arreaza embraces an active lifestyle. She enjoys traveling, hiking, and spending quality time outdoors with her loyal German Short Haired Pointer, Chico. Now, Ms. Arreaza brings her passion for education and her vibrant spirit to Virginia Run Elementary as their Assistant Principal!

Ms. Chavez joined the VRES family in 2023. She grew up in Mexico and Texas. She moved to Virginia in 1995 after graduating High School. Her passion is to help others, enhance human well-being, and make a difference, especially for the most vulnerable population. She treats them with sensitivity, and compassion, and endeavors to empower families to create changes in their own lives. In her free time, she enjoys being at home and spending time with family and friends.
